Stories of Adnan bin Saidi

  Lt Adnan bin Saidi has showed many qualities during the war such as, patriotism, bravery, courage and incisiveness.
  Upon his return from London, Lieutenant Adnan Saidi fell in love with an Islamic religious teacher whom he later married. His wife, Madam Sophia Pakih Muda gave birth to three children: two sons, Mokhtar and Zainudin whom are now now living in Seremban and Johore respectively, and a daughter. Unfortunately the baby girl died in her early infancy shortly after Singapore fell. Despite his busy schedule as a career soldier, Lieutenant Adnan Saidi settled down quickly as a family man. He dotes his boys and would always try to find time for his kids.
  Before going off to fight the war, Adnan bin Saidi's sons kissed their father’s hand as their last respect and he reminded them to be good, little did they know that it would be their last moment together.

   Lt Adnan bin saidi held off the Japanese for two days during the battle of Pasir Panjang. he is most notably credited as the soldier who caught the disguised of the "Indian troops" marching error in four which was the Japanese marching style instead of a line of three, which was the British marching style. And his favourite saying, 'Death before dishonour'
  Eventually, Adnan was shot but he carried on fighting until he succumbed to his injury. After the battle was lost, the Japanese soldiers tied his body to a cherry tree and bayoneted it.

Lt Adnan bin Saidi's role during the war

  During the fierce defense of Singapore against the Japanese invaders, Lieutenant Adnan Bin Saidi as the leader of the Malay troops led a 42-strong platoon from the Malay Regiment. On 12-14 Febuary1942, soldiers fought bravely at the Battle of Pasir Panjang.which is now known as Kent ridge, despite being out-gunned by Japanese artillery.
  The Japanese tried to trick the Malays in the British army by dressing up as Indian soldiers. It was Lieutenant Adnan Bin Saidi who was sharp enough to noticed that those familiar topeed figures were not marching in the regular threes but instead fours. Adnan killed several Japanese when he saw through their disguise, and the rest of the Japanese retreat.
  Although they are heavily outnumbered Adnan Bin Saidi refused to surrender, and encourage his men to fight until the end of their lives. For two days, the Japanese were held off by them, despite heavy enemy shelling and shortages of food and ammunition.

Who is Lt Adnan bin Saidi

  Adnan bin Saidi,was a Malayan soldier who was born on 1915 and lived till 1942. He was part of the 1st Infantry Brigade which fought the Japanese in the Battle of Singapore. He is regarded by many Singaporeans today as a hero for his actions during the battle of Pasir Panjang.
  Adnan was born at Sungai Ramal near Kanjang,. He was the eldest child in his whole family,His younger siblings, Ahmad Saidi and Amarullah Saidi, were also soldiers. Adnan was 18 when he joined the army and because of his brave courage and intelligence his rank rose.
